Tree House Card

Today I made a simple little card using the Tree House Fun pattern. 

 I can see using this pattern for some more fun designs in the future.

I copied the base of the tree and mirrored the duplicate, then welded it to the original to form a card base. 

I scored the tree down the center and ta da! a card was made.  Ha

I ran the bark of the tree and the seat of the swing through my cuttlebug in the wood grain folder.

I also ran the leaves of the tree through my cuttlebug using a curly cue folder.

I used ink to go over the dimensions on the leaves and the bark to add more color.

The rope was cut out on tan paper and then dabbed with ink to give it a frayed effect.

I chalked the edges of the little girl and colored her hair with a garnet atyou spika pen.

I topped her beauty off with gems in her bows and across the front of her dress.

The whole card came together using the Jaded Blossom die and sentiment.

I sure hope you like her as much as I do.

I may even keep this one instead of giving it away.

China Doll Beauty

Hi Everyone!! Ken here with Ken's Kreations. So the funny thing about today's project was all based around a paper pad. You know when you go to your favorite craft store and a new paper pad is in stock and you just have to HAVE it. Well I found that paper pad, however due to it's specific theme, I do not find a day to day use for this beautiful paper. So I challenged myself to create something and lucky for me ScrappyDew had the perfect file for me. Here is What I came up with:

So this whole project was based around the DCWV FAR EAST PAPER STACK. I feel in love with this paper stack as soon as I saw it. However as I said it was hard for me to find use for this elegant paper in my everyday use. Fortunately for me Scrappy Dew had the perfect file for this paper stack. The file is called KONNICHIWA DOLLS. It features 3 beautiful dolls, one holding an umbrella. Well I knew this would be the base for my card. I cut the doll using my CRICUT EXPLORE at 5.5 inches tall. I know I sound like a broken record, but anytime I can reduce my time spending on the "work" behind my project I will. That is why I turn to my CRICUT EXPLORE so much when working with layered images since it takes the work out of the equation for me. I inked all my edges using DEW DROP INK and one of my favorite tools, INK DAUBERS. I used the PAGODA CARTRIDGE for the Japanese folding screen and the beauty sentiment. 

I wanted to make sure that the screen actually folded so I used 3D FOAM DOTS to raise the middle of the screen up to give the look that the screen was folded in towards the china doll. I also took 3D FOAM DOTS to raise the "BEAUTY" sentiment. 

One of the final touches I made was to take BLACK AND WHITE ENAMEL ACCENTS to highlight the tree on the screen and the letters on "Beauty"

You Color My World

Hey Everyone! Ken here with Ken's Kreations and I am so excited to share my project with you today and how easily you can make one for that special someone in your life. I think this project would be a perfect gift for Father's Day, especially if you have little ones. Below I will share step-by-step instructions and photos of this project. I have seen this project take on many different designs. Here is my version:

So I am sure you have seen these Crayola Crayon art projects before. However I was shocked to see how creative people get with this projects. Take look HERE.Well I made my piece of art for an amazing mentor in my life who has helped me tremendously over the past few months. I wanted to make her something to let her know that she knew "You Color My World". At the bottom of this post you will see a full list of all the supplies you will need and links for this project. I used theYOU COLOR MY WORLD FILE for the words and my amazing CRICUT EXPLORE. This machine is no longer just used for making cards. I have said it before, this machine takes all the guessing work out of the cut! I love it for this! 

Here are the Step-By-Step Instructions: 

Starting with a 11 X 14 Canvas, lay out crayons in the color order you want. I wanted to go with a Rainbow look so I choose to buy the 64 Pack of Crayola's and laid them out in the color order I wanted from left to right on the canvas. 

Using my Hot Glue Gun, I put a thin strip along the base of the crayon. Make sure if you glue gun has settings, it is on the middle het setting since at this point you do not want to melt the crayon.

Lay the crayons along the top of the canvas one by one.

Here is what mine looked like before applying heat to the project.

Now below you will see a section I blocked off with Blue Vinyl. I did this because under my saying I wanted have less of the crayon wax coming through to give the illusion that the words stopped some of the wax from coming through. You do not have to do this if you wanted a different result. Now in the traditional instructions it says to use a hair dryer. However I felt a Heat Embosser gave me better control of where I wanted the heat to be applied to.

 Starting form the left I heated the crayons until they started to run. You can go slow or fast to the right. If you go slower you will get the look of the colors mixing. If you go at a faster pace it will keep the colors separate from each other. I wanted my colors to mix so I went pretty slow. Now depending on how much wax you want to come down depends on how high you want to heat the crayons. The higher up the crayon you go the more wax will come out. You can visually seen where I actually put the heat at on the crayons.

Using the YOU COLOR MY WORLD FILE and amazing CRICUT EXPLORE, I cut the image at 11.5 inches long.

I wanted to give a definition between the blue layer and the white/black base layer. One trick I have picked up from another Scrappy Dew designer is to use Craft Foam Sheets to raise up my images versus the traditional foam squares. This is a HUGE cost saver since this option is much cheaper. The other nice thing is these are already peel and stick and they can be matched the color of the project you are working on. 

Since only one side is adhesive I still had to use my Scotch ATG to adhere the backing.

For the top layer of the YOU COLOR MY WORLD FILE, I used one of my favorite craft tools, the Xyron X Sticker Maker. Before taking the top sticker off I use a pen to go around the edges for a nice smooth transfer of tape to product.

Now it was time to get the saying onto my art project. For this I used another cost saving trick. When I use 3D Foam Circles I am left with all of the outer edges. I always cut this up to use on larger surface areas.

I wanted to give the wording a "Waxed Crayon" look. So I used my STUDIO paints in the following colors: Landscape Green, Dash of Red, Dab of Yellow and Modern Red. In my opinion the Modern Red had more of an orange look to it, and that is why I used it for the orange set of letters.

I had a blast making this fun project. Just think of all the possibilities you can do with this project. You could have you kiddos pick out the colors and then take some vinyl and cut out their names or a silhouette of them, This would create a very personalized gift for that amazing person in you life.

A Whole New World
