Happily Ever After

Let me tell you a story,,,

Back in March, I received a wedding invitation.  Now for me this is not an ordinary wedding invitation.  This is a BIG DRESS UP (wearing panty hose) type of wedding.  It's in the big city in a very prestigious church.  (gosh i feel like a country bumpkin)  So since this invitation is from a very good friend, I accepted.

In the last part of June, I found my dress.  (pics later)  Every once in a while I would get the dress out of the closet and make sure it still looked good on me. (still good there)  It's now 1 week before my daughter and I head out.  I have had the card in my minds eye for a while.  Time to get started.

Here are the lyrics:
I used the Wedding Day, Royalty Palz and Movie Night 2013 files from ScrappyDew.

DCWV Glitter Stack, Graphic45 Le Romantique series, Recollections card stock,
The Paper House Mulberry paper in eggplant and assorted rhinestones and pearls.

Now the weddings colors are eggplant and dark green.  The bride will be carrying a bouquet of fall colors.  (sure helps to have inside info)  The first wedding couple I made, the bride and groom are facing each other.  Groom in all black and bride in white. It looked horrid!!!  I fretted for a few hours and then it dawns on me.  Use the colors of the wedding and play it up big.  So here is the front of the card.  (oh, BTW the card is 7x6")

The groom is wearing the wedding colors and the bride's dress is embossed. The dress was cut out of white card stock.  I had some wide white ribbon and I covered the card stock.  Then used the bug to emboss the entire dress.   Remember those leaves I used for the Halloween doozie, that's what the bouquet is made of.

Next, I wanted to make something unique and special for the inside of the card.  I don't think that a card is done unless the inside is as special as the outside.  So I decided that I could modify the Movie Night 2013 file.  I used the gallery from Make The Cut for a tag for the just married plaque.  The cans were the cylinder shape from MTC basic shapes.  A little bit of dark green ribbon and my car is complete.

Now this card needed a very special envelope.  So I dug out my G45 paper and found a couple in an embrace.  It is from the Le Romantique collection.

So this is what I have been doing for the last week.  So tomorrow is the big day.  So you all get a special friday post of the blog.  

I hope to have pics to share of this fantastic event, must make sure to pack my camera!  (just hope that the shoes and my feet last, taking some other shoes just in case)

Magical Memories Frame

A gift I made for my Sister-In-Law:

So my Sister-In-Law and her family have been to Disneyland a total of 3 times. On the last trip, Carsland was finally open. Because this park is so beautiful at night with all the neon lights they took a perfect family picture. This was the photo I choose to use for this frame. This also gave me the perfect opportunity to use the Magical Memories and Royalty Palz file from Scrappy Dew. 

I used my Cricut Explore to cut out all the elements for the frame which included the 4 characters and Magical Memories sentiment are from the Magical Memories and the castle from Royalty Palz set. The characters are cut between 4.25 and 4.75 inches in design space. The castle was cut at 35 inches. For a full list of supplies used on this project and all links see the project list located at the bottom of this post. 

**I used the Cricut Explore Pen Set for the kids hair highlights**

**For the Eyes I Used White Pen**

**For the fine black lines (smile, shoelaces) I used Micro Black Pen**

**For the shading using Daubers and Different Shades of Ink, Shade the edges**

 **For the Bow I used Red Stickles and for the Mickey Head I used Black Stickles.

 **For the Red Bow I Used Red Stickles and for goofy's teeth I used White Enamel Accents.

**For the Castle Flags I used Red Stickles, For The top of the Flag Poles I Used Tiny Yellow Buttons**
**For the frame around the photo I took Medium Red Buttons and Using Hot Glue Gun glued Tiny Yellow Buttons

Blessings Box

Last year I tried something new.  It was a post I saw on Facebook.  It was a mason jar that had been spruced up.  The jar was then labeled Blessings 2013.  So I had a very cute jar the girls had given me for Christmas, I labeled it and put little pieces of paper in it.  On each slip of paper I wrote the date and the blessing.  Then on New Years Eve I opened each blessing.  A few tears were cried but it is something I hope to continue each year from now on. 

BUT~~~~~you know that I can't do anything without creating a mess first.  Glitter faerie fights with the Bling Brats is fairly common in my studio.  I decided that I would re-purpose a wooden cigar box into a beautiful blessing box that I could use over and over.  So let's get this project started!!!

Here is what my cigar box looks like.  It's dinged up and battered.  Just wait little box, you are going to become treasured.

So the first step is to cover the inside of the box.  I carefully measured the inside bottom and then side height.  Added it together and the inside came to 8 3/4 by 9 1/4 inches.  I am learning in my old age to cut a pattern out first (to many mistakes to waste my pretty paper or material)  I cut a square with these dimensions and then cut each corner out using the height of the side. I scored a square linking the cut out squares and folded up the sides.

 Well I thought I was on the right track.  THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS USE A SCRAP.  Trial and error is usually how a project starts for me.  So I measured again, took the same steps and this is how it looks.  

Yes dear friends, I hear you yelling.  YOU HAVE TO ADD THE SIDE TO EACH SIDE OF THE BOX.  Not just two sides....So it took Geometry in College to teach me how to play pool (all about the angles baby)  I'm a little slow on the uptake.  ZENITH ZING to the rescue.  I made a square using the bottom dimensions, added the side height to each side and cut.

 I now have the bottom pattern and can decide what to use.  Pretty paper or maybe some felt with tinsel. Next up is the inside of the lid.  It's scratched and dinged.  So I got the dimensions and cut another pattern using freezer paper that I had laying around (use it for appliques in quilting).  So now I have patterns for the inside top and bottom.

Next is to give the entire box a new pretty surface.  I picked up some black enamel paint while at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, just a very little bottle and for 25 cents I was happy.  I had forgotten how much I DISLIKE painting with oil based enamel.  Yes it is beautiful when done, nice shine and gloss.  But the clean-up took longer than the actual painting.  So the box is all painted and I let it dry over night.

DAY TWO

Time to get the inside done.  I decided on the black felt with multi-colored tinsel.  I cut the felt using my pattern, sprayed the back with 3M adhesive and stuck it down.  I used my paper folder to make sure the felt was pushed into the corners.  Well I didn't take into consideration the thickness of the felt, it stuck over the edge of the box.  So I got out the scissors and trimmed it.  Well if you look in the above pics, the lip around the inside is a reddish tan.  It looked horrible.  So got the enamel out again and painted it.  It looks much better now. 

DAY THREE

The paint has had plenty of time to cure.  It had felt tacky.  Smooth as glass, so that means is time to transform what was a very sad little cigar box.  Let's start with the inside cover.  I used ColorBok  Pastels paper pack for the background.  Then added some ribbon on the edges.  Next I created the little angel from the ScrappyDew Little Angels 2012 filehttp://shop.scrappydew.com/shop/item/73964.  The clouds are from the same file.  I did use some pink pastel chalk on the edges of the large cloud.  The font is Missed Your Exit and I did a print and cut using MTC to complete the clouds.  Silver stars and tiny flowers are from my big box of sparkles.  I think it looks really cute.

Now for the outside.  I have a punch from EK Success that is beautiful.  I tried and tried to get it to punch through some very thick glitter paper.  Here is the solution.  I used my foot.  I have hardly any strength in my hands anymore.  So I gently stepped on the punch and it worked beautifully.  I trimmed each strip and adhered one to each side (carefully avoiding the hinges and latch).   

Almost done!  I love faeries and wanted a big one for the top of the box.  I used the Royalty Palz #3 princess http://shop.scrappydew.com/shop/item/68599.  The eyes are a pattern that I found over on Brigit Manns's website.  Can't share but I will show you the location http://www.brigitsscraps.com/.  Thanks Brigit! Now I needed some pretty big wings.  Looked in my Scrappy Dew files and found the wings in the Butterflies 2013 set http://shop.scrappydew.com/shop/item/88712.  Using MTC and my Zing, I enlarged the wings and cut one out of Vellum and the other out of DCWV Glitter Paper.  (Just a hint, I saved the glitter paper and used it like a stencil to place the parts on the vellum like a puzzle)  So now to put it all together.  The background paper is DCWV Pretty Posies, more glitter paper around the edges and the font used is Romance Fatal Serif Std.  The final item for my treasured blessings box is pretty paper to write my blessings on.

Princess Card

Last week's project was a cute little cowboy birthday card.  Well that card was blingless (yes no bling).  So I just had to make up for it this week.  I wanted to make a princess card and ScrappyDew had just the right file.  I have used the Royalty Palz http://shop.scrappydew.com/shop/search/royalty%20palz/. This file is amazing.  So many ideas and remember you can mix and match to create your own one of a kind elements. 

Here is my pretty pretty princess birthday card.  IMHO I think any girl big or small would like it.  

I'll let you know a secret, the silver paper is wrapping paper I found last year at Costco.  It's double sided paper and is very easy to cut and use.

Rapunzel Card

Hello and Good Morning!

Today is the last post for my July Guest Designer spot at ScrappyDew. I have made some pretty cute stuff with their files and I would have to say that my favorite is probably the Royal Palz, it's a huge one and will probably get used the most.

Royalty Palz

Royalty Palz:

My latest Design Team project: Horizontal border with the new Royalty Palz pattern.  This is just a hint of what is in the amazing set of patterns.

I used Make The Cut to create my border with the diamond edge in the gallery.  I layered purple paper as well as the top paper that has such adorable alligator texture.  Flanked with the princess and prince.  This file is loaded with patterns to keep a kingdom busy.
